I am drawn to the pure nature of children, the flower, the
creature, and strive toward their intangible wisdom through my
paintings. In recent years, my subject matter has turned to my
pre-adolescent daughters, and that age in general, for it's care-
free lack of consciousness. I look to flowers and creatures for
their simultaneous sense of awe and simplicity.
I want to evoke transcendence in the illuminationation
within a shadow or dark space, of quiet, still moments. I have
always been drawn to the striking, jewel-like colors of stained
glass, and the way the colored panes or painted figures are
contained within their black outline, further heightening each's
color's glowing power.
I've enjoyed returning to the skills of realistic painting that
were nurtured in my early classical training, after a period of
working in a more expressionistic style. Now I am experiencing
the deep satisfaction of acheiving a certain result through
very careful and meticulous rendering, while maintaining the
fluidity and freedom in working in oils.
